The US Women's National Team (USWNT) got off to a winning start in their two-match friendly series against the Republic of Ireland, securing a 2-0 victory in Austin, Texas on April 8, 2023.
The match at WEB Austin featured a strong performance from the USWNT, who controlled possession and created multiple scoring opportunities. The deadlock was broken in the 25th minute by Ashley Hatch, who capitalized on a clever assist from Mallory Pugh.
The Americans doubled their lead in the second half through Megan Rapinoe, who converted a penalty kick after a foul in the box. The Republic of Ireland fought valiantly but were unable to find a way past the resilient US defense.
