Sorcerous Origin 5e

How to Determine Your Sorcerer's Origin in Dungeons & Dragons 5e

Subtlety and Power

Sorcerers are wielders of arcane magic, deriving their power from an innate connection to magical forces. When creating a sorcerer character in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, one of the first choices you must make is their sorcerous origin. This decision will shape the source of their magical abilities and grant them unique features at the outset of their journey.

Draconic Bloodline

The Draconic Bloodline grants sorcerers a direct connection to dragons, infusing their bodies with draconic energy. This origin provides bonuses to Charisma and Constitution, as well as the ability to cast the Mage Armor spell and resistance to a specific damage type based on the dragon type they are descended from.

Aberrant Mind

Sorcerers with the Aberrant Mind origin have been influenced by creatures from the Far Realm. This grants them proficiency in the Insight skill and the ability to cast the Detect Thoughts spell. Additionally, they can use their Telepathy feature to communicate with other creatures telepathically.

Divine Soul

Divine Soul sorcerers channel their power from a divine source, such as a deity or a celestial being. This origin grants proficiency in the Insight skill and the ability to cast the Cure Wounds spell. Moreover, they can use their Favored by the Gods feature to reroll certain ability checks or saving throws, potentially turning the tide of battle.
